As a Hardware Developer Intern 2027, you will join an elite engineering team focused on developing, testing, and providing support for hardware, firmware, and semiconductors within IBM infrastructure, including zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems. You will engage in critical tasks such as logic design and verification, physical design, signal and power integrity analysis, microelectronics packaging, and thermal testing. The role involves solving complex problems related to the quantum revolution and AI era by ensuring high-performance processor and system validation. Candidates should possess knowledge of architectures like RISC-V, ARM, and FPGA, alongside programming in C/C++, Python, or Java. Technical skills include VHDL, Verilog, SPICE, and Tcl for circuit simulation. You will also utilize CAD tools and 3D modeling to support the development of cutting-edge microprocessors and integrated systems.

What you'll do

  • Design, test, and provide customer support for hardware, firmware, and semiconductors.
  • Perform logic (RTL) design, verification, and physical design for microprocessors.
  • Conduct signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal analysis for IBM infrastructure.
  • Execute processor, component, and system characterization and validation tests.
  • Develop and test firmware architectures while performing failure analysis.
  • Manage product quality assurance, specifications, and analytics.
  • Provide technical support to customers and field engineering teams.

What we're looking for

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related fields.
  • Prior project or internship experience in computer hardware or testing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least three months of experience designing or manufacturing hardware products (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of hardware architecture, programming languages, HDLs, and circuit simulation tools (preferred).
  • Proficiency in microprocessor/ASIC design, computer architecture coursework, and CAD tools (preferred).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, Python, or Java and familiarity with various hardware architectures (preferred).
