The Groton Facilities Engineering 2027 Engineering Summer Internship offers students an opportunity to join the Real Estate and Facilities Directorate at the Electric Boat shipyard. Working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, project managers, and designers, interns support infrastructure projects including new construction, renovations, and maintenance for systems such as fire protection, potable water, compressed gas, boiler and steam systems, HVAC, industrial ventilation, submarine support systems, and electrical distribution. Daily responsibilities include managing projects and surveillances, performing calculations on fluid systems, structures, and components, reviewing drawings and procedures, researching relevant codes, and assisting in preliminary project development. Candidates should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency with the MS Office suite. This role supports the maintenance and infrastructure of a century-old shipyard and its surrounding sites.

What you'll do

Support the management of infrastructure projects and site surveillances.

What we're looking for

Must be at least 18 years of age.
US citizenship is required.
Must pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
Must be enrolled full-time in a college or university.
Must have completed at least one year of college before the internship starts.
Must be available to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks during Summer 2027.
Pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Ocean, or Chemical Engineering.
Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong communication skills are required.
