The Combat and Weapons Systems (CWS) 2027 Engineering Summer Internship offers students an opportunity to work within the CWS Directorate, which develops Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems for United States Navy nuclear submarines. The role involves the technical integration of sonar, ship control, payload launch control, strategic weapons systems, C5I systems, and tactical software to ensure submarines can find and neutralize targets while remaining undetected. Candidates should possess strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills along with proficiency in the MS Office suite. This position focuses on the engineering challenges inherent in creating complex systems of systems for submarine naval missions through collaborative technical development and shipboard system testing.

What you'll do

  • Assist engineers with all aspects of Combat and Weapons Systems (CWS) efforts.
  • Develop technical drawings and disclosure documentation.
  • Create test procedures and execute system testing.
  • Develop and deploy software for submarine systems.
  • Develop and implement network infrastructure.
  • Perform component and system development and qualification.
  • Install and test systems on board ships.

What we're looking for

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must pass a medical screening, drug test, and potential DOD investigation.
  • Must be enrolled full-time in a college or university.
  • Must have completed at least one year of college before the start of the internship.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks during Summer 2027.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong communication skills are required.
