SSN Electrical Engineering and Design - 2027 Engineering Summer Internship is an internship role within the SSN Electrical Engineering and Design Directorate. Interns will work on integrated electrical design solutions for various submarine classes, including the Virginia and Columbia platforms. Daily responsibilities involve implementing systems engineering across electrical systems and electronic components, performing detailed design and qualification of ship integration products, and managing supplier engagements to ensure component specifications are met. The role also involves software architecture development, testing, and implementing unique cybersecurity requirements for shipboard systems, as well as network security administration for air-gapped environments. Candidates should possess strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills while being proficient in the MS Office suite. This work addresses critical electrical design products, new construction, and commissioned ship support for nuclear submarines.
Implement systems engineering across various electrical systems, electronic components, and software applications.
Perform detailed design, development, qualification, and ship integration of major submarine electrical systems.
Coordinate with suppliers to ensure component requirements and specifications are met.
Design, develop, and test software architecture for electrical systems.
Implement unique cybersecurity requirements for shipboard electrical systems.

What we're looking for
Must be at least 18 years of age.
US citizenship is required.
Must pass a medical screening, drug test, and potential DOD investigation.
Must be enrolled full-time in a college or university.
Must have completed at least one year of college before the start of the internship.
Must be available to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks during the Summer 2027 season.
Pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Marine, Software, Computer, Network, Security, Cybersecurity, Biomedical, or Energy Systems Engineering.
Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Office).
