The Electrical Safety Engineer serves as a subject matter expert within the development organization to ensure products meet internal safety requirements and industry standards. This role involves collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and EHS teams to integrate safety into product design and operational use. Key responsibilities include leading technical discussions on test setup safety, performing root cause analysis for incidents, conducting lab inspections, and managing 5S+1 practices. The engineer will perform Safety Risk Assessments, participate in Critical Design Reviews, and develop training programs for engineering teams. Required expertise includes electrical design concepts like grounding, insulation, and high-voltage systems. Candidates must be proficient with standards such as SEMI S2, IEC 60204-1, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA, while utilizing tools like the Intelex management system to track safety actions across the product lifecycle.
Act as the subject matter expert for electrical safety within the development organization.
Identify electrical safety risks early in the product development phase and drive mitigation strategies.
Lead Safety Risk Assessments (SRA) including identifying relevant topics and methodologies.
Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and near-misses to define corrective actions.
Perform lab inspections to ensure compliance with EHS and electrical safety requirements.
Develop and deliver training programs to improve electrical engineering team competence.
Maintain and update internal safety documentation based on evolving industry standards and regulations.
Manage the tracking of safety actions and audits using the Intelex management system.
What we're looking for
BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of electrical system design experience, or an MS in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience applying electrical safety standards and conducting risk assessments in product design.
Experience in lab or manufacturing safety environments including incident investigations, inspections, audits, and EHS management systems.
Expertise in electrical safety standards such as SEMI S2, IEC 60204-1, IEC 61010-1, NFPA 70/70E/79, OSHA, and UL.
Knowledge of safety risk assessment methodologies including ISO 12100 and SEMI S10.
Experience using EHS management systems like Intelex for tracking incidents, audits, and corrective actions.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional safety initiatives and mentor others as a subject matter expert in electrical safety.
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical standards into practical design solutions.
