The Electrical Safety Lead provides managerial and technical leadership for the Laboratory’s electrical safety programs, supporting research and development activities within the Environmental, Safety, and Health Directorate. This role serves as the subject matter expert and Authority Having Jurisdiction to develop policies, manage hazardous energy controls, and lead the Qualified Electrical Worker program. The individual will conduct inspections of new installations, perform OSHA compliance evaluations, and provide technical interpretations for high-voltage, battery, capacitor, and radio frequency systems. Key responsibilities include developing training materials, conducting risk assessments, and investigating electrical incidents. Required expertise includes low, medium, and high-voltage AC/DC systems, as well as proficiency in NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, and DOE 10 CFR 851 standards. The role requires skills in blueprint interpretation, Microsoft 365 tools, and technical documentation to ensure safety across complex research environments.

What you'll do

  • Develop, implement, and improve electrical safety policies, programs, and hazardous energy control procedures.
  • Serve as the site Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Lead the Qualified Electrical Worker program by developing and delivering classroom, hands-on, and web-based training.
  • Conduct inspections of new and modified electrical installations as a Certified Electrical Inspector.
  • Perform OSHA compliance evaluations, electrical safety audits, and risk assessments for research and operational environments.
  • Provide technical guidance on high-voltage, battery, capacitor, and radio frequency systems during design reviews.
  • Lead investigations into electrical incidents to analyze data and recommend preventive measures.
  • Manage the electrical safety team and coordinate activities with the Electrical Safety Committee.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electronics, or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Technology, Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Electrical Inspector license.
  • NFPA 70E certificate of completion.
  • Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Extensive knowledge of low, medium, and high-voltage AC/DC systems including accelerator-related systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical safety for batteries, capacitors, and radio frequency systems.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
