As a CPU Physical Design Engineer within the CPU Engineering team, you will lead innovative Central Processing Unit design efforts to develop high-performance and low-power designs. You will be responsible for anticipating and solving problems related to design completeness, functionality, power, and performance while collaborating across teams to define requirements and trade-offs from conceptualization through productization. Your daily work involves creating functional models, checkers, test plans, and detailed technical documentation for CPU designs. To succeed in this role, you must possess expertise in computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, and circuits. The required skill set includes proficiency in high-level programming languages like C and C++, scripting languages such as Python or Perl, and industry standard tools for synthesis, place, route, and design verification using Verilog and VHDL to ensure products meet rigorous standards.
Develop and verify high-performance, low-power CPU designs using knowledge of computer architecture and logic design.
Identify and solve technical problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power efficiency, and performance.
Define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs regarding performance, power, cost, and functionality for product goals.
Manage the design process from conceptualization through pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation.
Create detailed technical documentation including feature descriptions, architectural details, and verification test plans.
Implement multi-core CPU operations across various business units.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 1+ year of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-performance microprocessor design (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-level programming (C, C++), scripting languages (Perl, Python), and tools for synthesis, verification, or debugging (preferred).
2+ years of experience in simulation, emulation, formal verification, silicon validation, or creating functional models and test plans (preferred).
1+ year experience working in a large matrixed organization (preferred).
