CPU Physical Design Engineer (Austin) joins the CPU Engineering team to lead innovative Central Processing Unit design efforts. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, verify, and implement multi-core CPU operations for various business units. Key responsibilities include applying knowledge of computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, and circuits to develop high-performance, low-power CPU designs. You will identify problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance while evaluating the design process from conceptualization to productization. Required skills include proficiency in high-level programming languages like C and C++, scripting languages such as Python or Perl, and hardware description languages like Verilog and VHDL. You will also utilize industry-standard tools for synthesis, place and route, design verification, simulation, emulation, and formal verification.
Develop and verify high-performance, low-power CPU designs using computer architecture and logic design knowledge.
Identify and solve technical problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance.
Define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs for performance, power, cost, and functionality.
Evaluate the design process from conceptualization through pre-silicon design and post-silicon validation.
Write detailed technical documentation including feature descriptions, architectural descriptions, and verification test plans.
Implement multi-core CPU operations for various Qualcomm Business Units.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of relevant engineering work experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of relevant engineering work experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-performance microprocessor design (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with high-level programming (e.g., C, C++) and scripting languages (e.g., Python) (preferred).
2+ years of work experience with simulators, waveform debugging tools, synthesis, place and route, and design verification (preferred).
2+ years of experience in simulation, emulation, formal verification, silicon validation, or creating functional models and test plans (preferred).
