As a CPU Physical Design Engineer within the CPU Engineering team, you will lead innovative Central Processing Unit design efforts to develop and verify high-performance, low-power designs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage multi-core CPU operations, ensuring design completeness regarding functionality, power, and performance. Your daily work involves evaluating the entire design process from conceptualization to productization, including architecture definition, pre-silicon verification, and post-silicon validation. To succeed, you must utilize expertise in computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, and circuits. The role requires proficiency with high-level programming languages like C and C++, scripting languages such as Python or Perl, and hardware description languages including Verilog and VHDL. You will also utilize industry-standard tools for synthesis, place and route, and design verification to solve complex problems in the microprocessor domain.
Develop and verify high-performance, low-power CPU designs using expertise in computer architecture and logic design.
Solve complex problems regarding design completeness, functionality, power, and performance for multi-core CPU operations.
Define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs with cross-functional stakeholders to meet product goals.
Manage the entire design process from initial conceptualization through pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation.
Write detailed technical documentation including feature descriptions, architectural plans, and verification test plans.
Provide supervision to direct reports and influence key organizational decisions.
Communicate complex information clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
14+ years of work experience with high-performance microprocessor design, high-level programming, waveform debugging tools, synthesis/P&R tools, and verification methods (preferred).
14+ years of experience in creating functional models, checkers, test plans, and test generation (preferred).
3+ years experience working in a large matrixed organization (preferred).
2+ years in a technical leadership role and 1+ year interacting with senior leadership (preferred).
