TL;DR · Controls Engineer, Amazon Leo Optical Inter-Satellite Link

Controls Engineer, Amazon Leo Optical Inter-Satellite Link joins the OISL Electrical Engineering team to support the development, testing, and validation of pointing, acquisition, and tracking systems for free-space optical links. The role involves bridging the gap between algorithm models and hardware implementations by performing flight data analysis, simulation correlation, and production root cause analysis. Key responsibilities include developing test vectors for FPGA implementations, maintaining simulation environments, and supporting board-level design and trade studies for data converters. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, control system fundamentals like feedback loops and transfer functions, and experience with digital/analog signal interfaces. The position requires technical skills in Python, Git, and lab instrumentation to solve complex opto-mechatronics and electrical engineering problems within a low Earth orbit satellite constellation.

What you'll do

  • Analyze flight telemetry data to identify discrepancies and characterize on-orbit behavior.
  • Run and maintain simulation environments to validate model fidelity against observed data.
  • Develop and maintain test vectors to verify PAT FPGA implementations against Simulink models.
  • Perform model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop verification activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for production failures and board-level electrical issues.
  • Support trade studies for data converter selection and signal chain architecture.
  • Perform board-level testing and troubleshooting for analog and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Document test procedures, RCA findings, and version-controlled models or scripts.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience in a hardware-adjacent controls, test, or systems engineering role.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for running models, interpreting results, building test cases, and debugging.
  • Experience with control system fundamentals including feedback loops, transfer functions, and stability concepts.
  • Experience reading schematics and understanding digital/analog signal interfaces.
  • Experience analyzing test or flight data to identify trends, anomalies, and correlations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Export control laws and regulations, candidates.
