The Avionics Lab Engineer, Amazon Leo Satellite Avionics/Sub joins the EE Avionics Dev team to build and validate early satellite subsystem prototypes for a low Earth orbit satellite network. This role involves performing fine pitch component rework and repair on space-rated printed circuit boards down to 0201 size, conducting first article inspections, and interpreting electrical schematics. Key responsibilities include supporting hardware bring-up, electrical diagnostics, and environmental test set-up using oscilloscopes, power supplies, and DMMs. The engineer must maintain lab equipment to ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 standards and document work using electronic issue tracking software. The position requires expertise in electrical theory, robotics, and controls components to solve complex hardware problems and accelerate design releases for space-based systems and wireless systems.
Perform fine pitch component rework, modification, and repair on space-rated printed circuit boards down to 0201 size.
Interpret electrical schematics and data sheets to translate engineering intent into functional hardware.
Execute hardware validation testing using oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other common electronic test equipment.
Conduct failure analysis and root cause identification for identified hardware issues.
Support hardware bring-up, debugging, electrical diagnostics, and environmental simulation testing.
Perform first article PCBA inspections and polymeric inspections to ensure high quality standards.
Document all work performed and report discrepancies using electronic issue tracking software.
Manage lab operations including tool procurement, equipment calibration cycles, and ESD safety compliance.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
3+ years of experience in hardware development, test labs, space/aerospace maintenance, or hands-on engineering environments.
3+ years of experience performing PCBA rework, modification, and repair down to 0201 component size.
3+ years of experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment.
Ability to lift up to 49 pounds and perform physical tasks like standing, walking, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and reaching for up to 12 hours.
Degree or certificate in a related field is preferred.
IPC certifications (IPC-J-STD, IPC-7711/7721, IPC-620, and IPC-610) are preferred.
