Controls & Automation Engineer joins the Advanced Engineering Team to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of electrical and control systems within manufacturing and industrial environments. This entry-level role involves analyzing manufacturing processes to identify automation opportunities, improving equipment for OEE gains, and updating documentation such as electrical schematics and control narratives. The engineer will assist in writing, testing, and debugging PLC and HMI control logic while troubleshooting electrical and process-related issues. Key responsibilities include supporting validation, installation, commissioning, and startup activities for automation projects. Required skills include a bachelor’s degree in electrical, controls, automation, or computer engineering, along with proficiency in PLC systems, industrial components like VFDs and motors, and AutoCAD. The role focuses on solving technical challenges within the life sciences, diagnostics, and biotechnology sectors to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
Update electrical and control systems schematics, control narratives, and standard operating procedures.
Write, test, and debug PLC and HMI control logic.
Troubleshoot electrical, control, and process-related issues in industrial environments.
Support the validation, installation, commissioning, and startup of automation projects.
Assist with the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing electrical systems.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
Experience in electrical, controls, or automation engineering (co-op or internship experience acceptable).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow into increased technical roles.
Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (preferred).
Basic knowledge of electrical concepts, control systems, NEC requirements, automation safety standards, and ability to read/develop electrical schematics (AutoCAD experience preferred).
Familiarity with troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and common industrial electrical components (preferred).
