The Senior Automation Controls Engineer is an experienced individual contributor within the Systems Engineering group. This role involves the design, development, implementation, and support of PLC-based automation and machine vision systems for high-volume manufacturing. Key responsibilities include programming PLC and HMI systems, troubleshooting automated equipment, and performing validation activities like IQ, OQ, and PQ. The engineer will work with Rockwell RS Logix-5000, FactoryTalk, and Cognex Designer, including VisionPro and deep learning. Technical skills required include experience with EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, and OPC UA protocols, as well as Fanuc robots, VFDs, and motion control. The position focuses on solving technical problems in the production of molecular diagnostic systems, ensuring reliable and compliant equipment performance through detailed technical documentation and cross-functional problem solving.
Design, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems, HMIs, and user interface software.
Implement and integrate vision inspection systems using Cognex In-Sight, VisionPro, and deep learning.
Support system commissioning, equipment upgrades, and production troubleshooting for high-volume manufacturing.
Execute equipment validation activities including IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols.
Participate in design reviews, electrical design assessments, and code reviews.
Develop and maintain controls standards using IEC 61131-3-aligned PLC software.
Specify and integrate control panels, including PLCs, I/O, power supplies, and safety components.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5+ years of related work experience.
Master’s degree in a related field with 3+ years of related work experience.
Doctoral degree in a related field with related work experience.
Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming/troubleshooting using Rockwell RS Logix-5000 and FactoryTalk.
Experience with Cognex Designer (In-Sight, VisionPro deep learning) and industrial communication protocols like EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, and OPC UA.
Experience with high-speed manufacturing equipment, Fanuc robots, VFDs, servo systems, motion control, and safety/standard I/O.
Proven ability to develop and implement controls standards using IEC 61131-3–aligned PLC software.
Strong background in software validation, equipment qualification (IQ, OQ, PQ), and detailed technical documentation.
