As a Compression Engineer at Warner Bros. Discovery, you will join a team responsible for aggregating and distributing video services across North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. Your role involves maintaining primary and secondary compression systems, monitoring state-of-the-art equipment, and ensuring reliable transmissions through troubleshooting and implementing standards. You will work on both day-to-day operations and major live events, requiring expertise in baseband video, IP transport, and cloud-based technologies such as DigiCipher and PowerVu systems. Key responsibilities include system maintenance, diagnostic testing, vendor coordination, and creating standard operating procedures. Ideal candidates have 4-6 years of experience with television compression and distribution, solid knowledge of MPEG4 encoding, encryption technology, and IP theory, along with strong communication skills to manage high-pressure environments effectively.
Implement and maintain compression and encoding systems for reliable transmissions.
Troubleshoot equipment outages and technical issues affecting global monitoring platforms.
Support Technical Live Events team for contribution and distribution of major events.
Conduct diagnostic testing and repair activities for all compression subsystems.
Create standard operating procedures, maintenance plans, and test strategies.
What we're looking for
4-6 years of experience with domestic and international television compression and distribution systems.
Solid knowledge of baseband video, audio, metadata, MPEG4 encoding technologies, encryption/authorization technology, DigiCipher, and PowerVu compression systems.
Understanding of cloud-based architecture and applications for video delivery, IP theory, and operation in support of command and control as well as video transport.
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot issues related to transmission systems and perform diagnostic testing and repair activities.
Experience working independently with strong oral and written communication skills, providing weekly status reports and daily updates to management.
Must be able to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple tasks in a 24/7 environment.
