Automation Engineer, Protein Therapeutics will join the Protein Sciences team within the Protein Therapeutics Department to lead the design, implementation, and support of scalable laboratory automation solutions. This role involves building high-throughput workcell solutions by integrating commercially sourced and internally built systems to advance therapeutic programs in Virology, Inflammation, and Oncology. The engineer will translate laboratory processes into automated workflows, provide programming and integration support for instruments and scheduling software, and manage technical documentation and training materials. Key skills include experience with liquid-handling platforms, robotics, and laboratory information management systems. Candidates should possess expertise in antibody discovery, biologics engineering, and protein sciences. Preferred technical proficiencies include Python, Java, or C++. The role focuses on solving complex problems in biologics discovery processes, including molecular assessment and developability studies to improve data quality and operational efficiency.
Design, build, and implement scalable laboratory automation workcell solutions using commercial and custom systems.
Translate manual laboratory processes into high-throughput automated workflows for protein therapeutics programs.
Optimize and qualify automated workflows to improve data quality and operational efficiency.
Develop technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials for technology adoption.
Provide programming and integration support for automation platforms, instruments, and information management systems.
Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting to resolve system anomalies and ensure maximum uptime.
Partner with IT teams to streamline structured data capture for analytics and data science.
Evaluate emerging technologies and implement new capabilities aligned with departmental strategy.
What we're looking for
Obtain a BS with 10+ years experience, MS with 8+ years, PhD with 5+ years, or MD (preferred).
Degree must be in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, structural biology, engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience in designing, building, integrating, and supporting high-throughput laboratory automation workflows (preferred).
Experience in laboratory robotics, liquid-handling platforms, workflow scheduling software, and integrated automation systems (preferred).
Experience translating scientific workflows into automated methods and qualification into routine deployment (preferred).
Familiarity with antibody discovery, biologics engineering, protein expression, purification, and developability assessment in an industry setting (preferred).
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ (preferred).
Experience in MS SharePoint sites and SmartSheet platform management (preferred).
