Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager of Security Platform Engineering to lead our security platform engineering team. This role is responsible for managing and enhancing our comprehensive suite of security controls and platforms that protect Nordstrom’s enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will drive technical strategy for security tooling, optimize platform performance, and lead initiatives to consolidate, integrate and modernize our security infrastructure while building a high-performing engineering team. You will collaborate across the organization to ensure the seamless implementation and operation of critical security controls that protect our business, employees, customers, and data. The right leader will bring an AI-first mindset and a proven ability to enable their team to embrace and leverage AI in their day-to-day work.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Platform Vision

• Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for security platforms across multiple domains, including endpoint protection, cloud security (or CSPM), data protection, email security, and logging/monitoring systems.
• Champion an AI-first approach to security platform strategy, identifying opportunities to leverage AI across tooling, threat detection, and operations.
• Drive consolidation and modernization initiatives to simplify and streamline security tooling while enhancing protection capabilities and reducing operational overhead.
• Create multi-quarter implementation plans that align with enterprise security vision and business objectives.
• Identify and prioritize security platform enhancements based on emerging threats, business requirements, and technology trends.
• Establish meaningful security metrics that demonstrate business value and track platform effectiveness.
• Partner with security leadership to translate organizational security strategy into actionable platform implementation plans.

Program Management & Technical Execution

• Lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise security platforms including EDR, AV, DLP, encryption, SIEM, CSPM, email security, and related technologies.
• Oversee RFP processes and technical evaluations for new security tools, ensuring alignment with security requirements and business needs.
• Manage complex security platform migrations and upgrades with minimal business disruption.
• Establish and maintain security platform standards, best practices, and architectural patterns.
• Develop processes for continuous improvement of security platform operations, stability, and effectiveness.
• Partner with IT, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure security platform integration across enterprise environments.
• Oversee incident response for platform-related security events and drive root cause analysis and remediation efforts.

Team Leadership & Development

• Build, lead, and mentor a diverse team of security platform engineers across operational support and core engineering functions.
• Establish team structure that optimizes for both operational excellence and strategic platform innovation.

Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across IT, engineering, and business units.
• Represent security platform needs in cross-functional initiatives and steering committees.
• Communicate complex security concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Negotiate and manage dependencies with partner teams to ensure successful security platform deployments.
• Collaborate with governance, risk, and compliance teams to ensure security platforms meet regulatory requirements.
• Partner with SOC and incident response teams to ensure roadmaps and platform capabilities support detection and response needs (or requirements).
• Advocate for security platform requirements in enterprise architecture and technology standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of experience in information security or cybersecurity with a focus on security engineering, architecture, or operations.
• 3-5 years of experience in security management roles with a track record of leading high-performing technical teams.
• Deep understanding of enterprise security architecture and technologies, particularly in the areas of endpoint protection, data security, and monitoring.
• Experience leading complex security platform implementations, migrations, or upgrades in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
• Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated AI-first mindset with experience adopting AI tools and enabling teams to integrate AI into their work.
• Proven ability to translate security requirements into practical technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with cloud security platforms and securing hybrid environments.
• Familiarity with AI-powered security tools such as AI-driven SIEM analytics, LLM-assisted threat hunting, or AI-enhanced vulnerability management.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AWS Security).
• Experience with DevOps practices and security automation.
• Understanding of retail or e-commerce security challenges.
• Experience with security platforms such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, Splunk, or similar enterprise security tools.
• Background in software engineering or development.

As the Senior Director of Engineering for Store Commerce & Restaurant Technology, you will lead the vision, delivery, and evolution of the core in‑store technologies that sit at the heart of the Nordstrom experience. A day in the life…

• Define and execute the technology strategy for POS platforms across Nordstrom Full Line and Nordstrom Rack stores, ensuring systems support sales, inventory visibility, and in-store fulfillment seamlessly.
• Lead and evolve the Restaurant technology platform end-to-end — spanning point of sale, online/mobile ordering, and guest-facing payment. Oversee integrations with labor management systems (scheduling, time and attendance, etc.), food cost management and recipe costing platforms, and restaurant inventory systems — recognizing that these are distinct domains that must work together to give operators a complete picture of cost and control.
• Support the Store Hardware strategy, including device lifecycle management, vendor relationships, and hardware standardization across store formats.
• Drive organizational structure, talent planning, and leadership development across POS, Restaurant, and Hardware engineering teams.
• Identify and develop leaders at all levels; build high-performing, inclusive teams that are equipped to execute on a complex, multi-year roadmap.
• Own architectural decisions for store commerce systems, balancing short-term operational stability with long-term platform modernization goals.
• Partner with business and product leaders to translate store operational needs into technology outcomes — gathering requirements, evaluating build vs. buy options, and selecting the right technology.
• Manage third-party software providers and hardware vendors, including contract negotiation, integration oversight, and ongoing performance management.
• Drive platform consolidation and shared technology foundations across store formats, reducing redundancy and accelerating the pace of innovation.
• Define engineering standards, operational excellence practices, and KPIs for store technology reliability, uptime, and incident response.
• Collaborate with Finance and Procurement on budget planning, hardware refresh cycles, and total cost of ownership for store technology investments.
• Champion unified commerce as a strategic direction for store technology — working across POS, order management, inventory, and customer identity to move from point-to-point channel integrations toward a shared platform and a seamless cross-channel customer journey.
• Drive AI transformation across the organization — both in how your engineering teams build software (AI-assisted development, code generation, automated testing) and in how AI creates new capabilities for the business.
• Partner with enterprise AI and data platform teams to surface store and restaurant data as a competitive asset — enabling real-time reporting on sales, food costs, labor efficiency, and inventory that empowers store leaders to make faster, better decisions.

You own this if you have…

• 15+ years of experience in technology, with at least 7–10 years in senior leadership roles managing large, enterprise-scale engineering organizations.
• Proven experience owning store technology systems in a retail environment, including Point of Sale platforms, store hardware, and associated integrations. Restaurant or food service technology experience is a plus.
• Deep familiarity with the operational realities of physical retail: store opening/closing processes, associate workflows, payment processing, inventory visibility at the floor level, and fulfillment from store.
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern software development practices, web technologies, and distributed systems.
• Experience managing and integrating third-party software providers (e.g., POS vendors, hardware OEMs) and negotiating contracts and SLAs to drive business value.
• Demonstrated success leading multi-team organizations through platform modernization, consolidation, or significant technology transformation.

Product Manager 2 for Transportation is a key member of the Supply Chain Product Management team, responsible for developing and executing a strategic roadmap that drives fast, reliable, and cost-efficient delivery across the fulfillment network. Strategic Planning & Roadmap Execution

Go-to-Market & Optimization

Qualifications

Required

• 4+ years of product management experience, preferably in supply chain, logistics, e-commerce, or transportation.

• Strong analytical skills with experience in KPI development, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and cross-functional partner teams to build and improve ML-powered digital products such as personalization, recommendation, conversational search, and fraud detection systems.

We’re building the measurement and accountability foundation for Nordstrom’s Platform and Data organization. As we transform from annual to quarterly planning cycles and leverage AI to reimagine how we work, we need someone who can assess what we measure, trust what the data says, and use it to drive accountability for outcomes across the portfolio.

This role owns the full measurement lifecycle — from defining what we measure and why, to operating the dashboards and reporting systems that make portfolio health visible to leadership. But ownership here means more than maintenance. You’re expected to drive: to surface what’s off-track, push for resolution, and ensure that data translates into action — not just awareness. That means working directly with Senior Directors, Directors, and Principal TPMs — not only to gather inputs, but to pressure-test whether the data is hitting the mark and telling the right story. Over time, you’re also expected to automate and elevate — progressively reducing manual effort so your capacity shifts toward higher-order framework work and accountability outcomes.

Measurement Framework Ownership & Evolution

• Own the end-to-end measurement framework for PND, Tech Domain, and Tech All portfolio health — and drive its continuous evolution as organizational strategy shifts
• Define and refine KPIs, scorecards, and success metrics that reflect strategic priorities, not just operational activity — incorporating both quantitative performance data and qualitative signals from across the organization
• Assess maturity across the portfolio and prioritize accordingly — not every area needs the same level of focus, and part of the job is knowing where to invest effort and where the current state is sufficient
• Identify what’s working, what’s creating noise, and where gaps are allowing performance issues to go undetected

Operational Reporting & Dashboard Ownership

Role Summary

Visionary enterprise security leader defining organizational direction and industry-leading practices for platform security across Nordstrom's technology ecosystem. Establishes foundational security principles, strategic roadmaps, and governance frameworks that shape how Nordstrom secures platforms at scale, including emerging technologies, multi-cloud environments, and next-generation computing paradigms. Serves as the organization's foremost authority on platform security architecture with influence extending across technology and business leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

• Define and evangelize the long-term platform security vision aligned with enterprise technology strategy and business objectives
• Establish organization-wide platform security principles, standards, and governance frameworks that influence technology decisions at the highest levels
• Drive Executive level platform security strategy discussions, translating complex technical security concepts into business risk and opportunity
• Lead cross-functional security transformation initiatives that fundamentally reshape how Nordstrom approaches platform security

Enterprise Architecture & Innovation

• Architect enterprise-wide security solutions for emerging and disruptive technologies (genAI, edge computing, decentralized systems)
• Develop comprehensive reference architectures and security patterns that become organizational standards across all technology domains
• Pioneer innovative security approaches that position Nordstrom as an industry leader in platform security practices
• Influence vendor roadmaps and industry standards through thought leadership and strategic partnerships

Risk & Business Impact

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years in cybersecurity with 5+ years leading enterprise-level security architecture initiatives
• Demonstrated track record of defining security strategy that influenced organizational direction at Fortune 500 or equivalent scale
• Proven ability to drive consensus and adoption of security standards across diverse technical and business stakeholders
• History of mentoring senior technical talent and elevating organizational security capabilities
• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field; Master's Degree strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Published thought leadership (patents, peer-reviewed publications, industry presentations) in platform security
• Experience advising C-suite or Board of Directors on technology security strategy

A day in the life...

• Design & develop innovative solutions to drive Nordstrom business.
• Have a passion for writing clean, consistent, and elegant code to create scalable and reliable systems

• Work with defect tracking, source code control and software release systems to ensure high-quality software releases over time

You own this if you have...

• 4+ years of professional experience in practice area
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent degree  required
• Experience analyzing, designing, coding, testing, installing and maintaining complex software programs
• Knowledge of Java and Java Springboot framework. Knowledge of other programming languages (like Python, React , JavaScript, C#) is a plus
• A strong desire to automate everything
• Strong grasp of multiple tech stacks
• Experience with Backend Database (preferably Spanner) or NoSQL or Postgres databases
• Experience with RESTful architecture and Microservices.
• Experience with Amazon AWS/GCP is required
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and modern development practices and development lifecycle using Scrum, Kanban or other agile methodologies
• Familiarity with CI/CD and testing tools
• Familiarity with messaging middleware (Kafka, SQS)
• Experience with writing services as well as consuming services using REST, SOAP, XML, JSON or any combination
• Emphasis on building metrics into the system and providing visibility on uptime and performance via real time alerting, reporting, and dashboards
• Experience working with diverse, collaborative, cross-functional teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to persuade inspire and motivate others. This includes communicating technical information to non-technical audiences
• You dislike hearing the words “It has always been done this way” and are curious about why things are done the way they are today.
• Have your stylistic preferences when it comes to code but understand the discipline it takes to keep the source code maintainable.
