JOB TITLE: VP, Container Engineering
The VP, Container Engineering leads the Containers team within the Cloud Center of Excellence. This role involves owning the strategy, architecture, and operations of the container platform, primarily focusing on Amazon EKS across a multi-account landing zone. You will build a paved-road, self-service experience for application teams while managing potential expansions into ECS and OpenShift. Key responsibilities include driving platform stability, partnering with FinOps for cost efficiency, and leading a globally distributed team across the US and India. You will utilize technologies including Terraform, Helm, GitHub Actions, Karpenter, and ArgoCD or Flux. The role requires a player-coach who can perform hands-on cluster upgrades and incident response while solving complex infrastructure problems in a regulated financial services environment using AWS-first cloud strategies.
Own the strategy, architecture, implementation, and operations of the Amazon EKS container platform.
Set the multi-year container strategy for cluster topology, multi-tenancy, and CI/CD integration.
Partner with FinOps to drive container cost efficiency using tools like Karpenter and Kubecost.
Deliver a self-service experience for application teams using Terraform/Helm modules and internal developer platforms.
Lead and mentor a globally distributed team of senior cloud engineers across the US and India.
Operate as a player-coach by contributing directly to Terraform code, design reviews, and incident response.
Lead 24x7 on-call rotations as the senior incident commander and technical escalation point.
Embed agentic AI capabilities into the engineering practice and the container platform's self-service experience.
What we're looking for
10+ years of progressive technical experience including 5+ years in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering leadership.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience).
5+ years of hands-on production AWS experience in a multi-account landing zone.
4+ years of authoring production Terraform in a private module ecosystem delivered through Terraform Cloud and GitHub Actions.
1+ year experience as a direct people manager or Technical team lead of engineering teams of 5+ engineers.
5+ years experience leading and personally participating in 24x7 production on-call rotations in a regulated environment (financial services strongly preferred).
4+ years of operating Amazon EKS at scale in production with Terraform and Helm in partnership with a FinOps function.
