Tyvek® R&D Senior Scientist/Engineer – Product Development (f/m/d) joins the Tyvek® R&D team to define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on product and process technology development. This role involves developing nonwoven membrane solutions for healthcare packaging and personal protective equipment by building process-structure-property relationships from lab scale to commercial production. The candidate will perform designs of experiments related to flash spinning of new polymers, polymer blends, and additives while managing intellectual property and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Key requirements include a PhD or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Polymer Science, or Materials Engineering. Essential skills include expertise in polymer processing, chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and project management. The role requires applying fundamental scientific principles to solve complex problems regarding product performance monitoring and manufacturing improvements for advanced materials used in protective applications.
Lead and execute R&D programs to improve the technical value of Tyvek nonwovens in the market.
Design experiments for flash-spinning new polymers, blends, additives, and optimized process conditions.
Develop methods to monitor product performance across multiple processing steps.
Identify and develop new or improved lab and pilot scale capabilities.
Create and manage intellectual property while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Partner with cross-functional teams to scale new processes and products for commercial production.
Communicate technical findings through formal reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with suppliers to identify and source improved process ingredients.
What we're looking for
PhD or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Polymer Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related disciplines.
Knowledge in at least two areas including product development, scale-up, polymer chemistry/physics, characterization, thermodynamics, IP, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance.
Previous professional experience in research or manufacturing roles.
Ability to apply fundamental scientific and engineering principles to solve problems and develop products.
Proficiency in technical writing, documentation, and general software.
Robust statistical and analytical skills.
Preferred experience in project management leadership for mechanical equipment or machinery from idea to installation.
Fluency in English is required; German and French are preferred.
