Senior Scientist, Engineering- Analytical Container Closure Integrity (CCI) joins the Center for Packaging & Device Analytics within the Manufacturing Division. This individual contributor role focuses on technical contributions to packaging and medical device-combination product programs during late-stage development and global manufacturing support. The successful candidate will perform characterization of new components, develop and validate CCI methods, manage method transfers, provide technical support for manufacturing investigations, and grow analytical capabilities. Key responsibilities involve solving complex problems using applied experimental physical science. Required expertise includes proficiency in technologies such as dye ingress, high voltage leak detection, vacuum and pressure decay, laser headspace, and tracer gas analysis. The role requires knowledge of USP <1207> and ISO-13485 standards to ensure the integrity of sterile packaging components like vials, pouches, syringes, and cartridges for drug-delivery products.
Characterize new package or device components to inform selection and optimization.
Develop and validate Container Closure Integrity (CCI) testing methods for medical devices and packaging.
Manage method transfers and provide lifecycle support for established analytical processes.
Provide technical support to resolve complex packaging and device manufacturing investigations.
Grow CCI analytical technologies and capabilities within the Center of Packaging & Device Analytics.
Perform advanced CCI testing using dye ingress, high voltage leak detection, and tracer gas analysis.
Ensure all testing complies with USP <1207>, ISO-13485, and other relevant industry standards.
What we're looking for
Must have a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering or a related scientific discipline like physical chemistry.
Must have at least 5 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries with a BS/MS degree.
A PhD degree is accepted as an alternative to the 5-year experience requirement for those with a BS/MS.
Must have familiarity and some experience with container closure integrity (CCI) testing in an industrial or academic context.
Must possess advanced proficiency in common CCI technologies including dye ingress, high voltage leak detection, vacuum/pressure decay, laser headspace, and tracer gas analysis.
Must have hands-on experience in CCI test method development, validation, and troubleshooting for packaging or medical device products.
Must have an understanding of USP <1207>, ISO-13485, and other relevant industry standards.
Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams.
