Technical Standards – Data Center Firmware and Software is a senior role within the Technical Standards Engineering team. The successful candidate will act as a representative in standardization forums to improve and evolve industry technical standards while collaborating with internal and external partners to identify emerging trends and protect intellectual property through patent filings. Daily responsibilities involve analyzing the data center firmware and software landscape for server, edge, and accelerator systems. The role requires extensive experience in open-source development, Linux operating systems, and firmware. Key technologies include UEFI, drivers, kernel virtualization, hypervisors, system management, network management, compilers, toolchains, and QEMU. Candidates must possess expertise in Arm or RISC-V ISA systems and have a deep understanding of data center technologies across enterprise, HPC, and hyperscaler environments to solve complex infrastructure challenges.
Represent Qualcomm as a delegate in various technical standards forums and industry organizations.
Identify emerging firmware and software standards for data center systems across server, edge, and accelerator platforms.
Develop and promote industry standards in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Formulate and execute the corporate strategy for data center standards.
Work with attorneys to file patents that protect novel intellectual property from new inventions.
Analyze domestic and international competitor strengths and weaknesses within the data center landscape.
Monitor and influence the development of open-source software and licensing models.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of experience, OR Master's degree and 7+ years, OR PhD and 6+ years.
10+ years of experience in software engineering and open-source development focusing on Firmware, Kernel, and Operating systems in Arm or RISC-V ISA systems.
4+ years of experience with technical standards bodies or industry organizations such as UEFI Forum, OCP, Linux Foundation, JEDEC, ISO, PCIe, IEEE, or DMTF.
Strong networking and influencing skills.
Strong documentation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in open-source software development is a must.
Knowledge of UEFI, drivers, kernel virtualization, hypervisor, systems management, network management, compiler, toolchain, and QEMU (preferred).
Experience with data center technologies, international landscapes, or research communities (preferred).
