JOB TITLE: Technical Architect
The Technical Architect joins the Microsoft Frontier Company to work within a Forward Deployed Engineering model, embedding directly with customer teams to solve complex challenges. You will work in small, multidisciplinary crews alongside data scientists and product managers to build reliable, production-ready systems and scalable services. Your daily responsibilities include leading discovery with stakeholders, architecting end-to-end cloud and AI solutions, and designing secure software using threat modeling and safe deployment patterns. You will utilize C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python to develop reference implementations and frameworks. The role focuses on navigating ambiguous problem spaces to deliver measurable customer impact, specifically by applying AI and LLM-based solutions, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented approaches to move data-driven insights into production environments while maintaining high standards of security and quality.
Design and build secure, production-ready cloud and AI systems using modern engineering practices.
Translate customer business goals and constraints into clear technical requirements and solution approaches.
Architect and implement end-to-end solutions from initial prototype to production deployment.
Create reusable frameworks, reference implementations, and best-practice patterns for the broader ecosystem.
Lead technical discovery and navigate complex problem spaces to guide teams toward pragmatic decisions.
Mentor engineers through design reviews and provide hands-on guidance to unblock technical progress.
Deliver solutions that meet success metrics through coaching, knowledge transfer, and clear documentation.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
Equivalent experience to the required degree and years of experience.
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 12+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (preferred).
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 15+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (preferred).
Equivalent experience to the preferred degree and years of experience (preferred).
Experience designing, deploying, and operating AI or LLM-based solutions, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented approaches, model tuning, evaluation, data quality, and performance monitoring (preferred).
Experience partnering directly with customers or internal stakeholders to deliver solutions end-to-end (preferred).
Experience using cloud AI platforms such as Azure ML or OpenAI (preferred).
