TL;DR · Support Engineer, U.S. Government Support

Support Engineer, U.S. Government Support joins the U.S. Government Support Engineering team to assist public sector organizations and United States government agencies. You will diagnose and resolve complex issues in GitLab deployments operating within highly secure, air-gapped, and classified environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing deep technical investigations using Linux command-line tooling to analyze logs, system performance, and application behavior. You will partner with Product and Engineering teams to reproduce defects, open merge requests, and build internal troubleshooting utilities. Required skills include Linux systems administration, Ruby, Bash, Git, CI/CD workflows, and container-orchestration technologies like OpenShift and Kubernetes. You must also understand information security concepts like DISA STIG and SELinux. This role solves technical challenges in mission-critical environments where traditional troubleshooting is limited by strict compliance and security constraints.

What you'll do

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues for U.S. government agencies in secure, air-gapped, and regulated environments.
  • Perform deep technical investigations using Linux command-line tools to analyze logs, system performance, and application behavior.
  • Trace issues across infrastructure and code paths to identify root causes and recommend durable fixes.
  • Create and update clear, reusable technical documentation and support content based on real customer interactions.
  • Build and refine internal support tools, automation, and troubleshooting utilities to improve diagnostic efficiency.
  • Participate in weekday and weekend on-call rotations to provide emergency support for self-managed customers.
  • Contribute to the product by opening merge requests to resolve customer-impacting issues and edge-case defects.
  • Review applications and participate in interviews to support the growth and hiring of the support engineering team.

What we're looking for

  • You must be a United States Citizen.
  • You must be eligible to work on United States federal customer environments.
  • Experience managing customer-facing cases across the full support lifecycle from triage to resolution is required.
  • Strong Linux systems administration knowledge is required to troubleshoot performance and configuration issues.
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM-powered developer tooling and gateway architectures is required.
  • Ability to use scripting languages (preferably Ruby or Bash) and work within model-view-controller frameworks (preferably Ruby on Rails) is required.
  • Practical experience with Git and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows is required.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and container-orchestration technologies such as OpenShift and Kubernetes is required.
