TL;DR · Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical

Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical (Falcon & Dragon) serves as a technical point of contact for machined components and assemblies used in rockets and rocket engines. This role involves managing the full lifecycle from new product development to stabilized production by identifying manufacturing methods, vetting suppliers, and conducting design for manufacturing reviews. The engineer will resolve root cause issues, drive production part approval processes, and implement engineering drawing updates to improve manufacturability and reduce risk. Key technical requirements include experience with machining operations like milling and turning, interpreting GD&T principles, and utilizing 3D modeling software. Candidates should possess skills in SQL, PowerBI, Minitab, and Six Sigma methodologies while navigating quality systems such as AS9100. The role addresses the challenge of scaling high-quality manufacturing for complex aerospace hardware to meet aggressive production timelines and technical requirements.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned parts to resolve manufacturing and quality issues at supplier sites.
  • Perform root cause analysis on part failures and implement engineering changes or re-sourcing actions to mitigate risk.
  • Drive technical product improvements and update engineering drawings to improve manufacturability, lead times, and cost.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews to ensure parts are producible before the sourcing phase begins.
  • Manage the new product introduction process by selecting manufacturing methods and developing reliable production ramps.
  • Execute the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to ensure stable supply and reduce inspection oversight.
  • Lead containment activities and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve high-impact supply chain defects.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience with manufacturing or inspection of mechanical products in a production environment.
  • Experience with machining operations such as milling, turning, drilling, and cutting of materials.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, models, and apply GD&T principles.
  • Knowledge of supplier quality processes including PPAP, APQP, FAIR, and quality systems like AS9100.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling/CAD software and experience with SQL and PowerBI.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, PFMEAs, and statistical techniques such as Six Sigma or Minitab.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for export control authorizations.
