TL;DR · Staff Propulsion Engineer, Air Vehicles (Solid Rocket Motor Integration)

Staff Propulsion Engineer, Air Vehicles (Solid Rocket Motor Integration) joins the Air Dominance & Strike Propulsion Integration team to design and integrate advanced hardware for Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms. This role involves architecting and integrating solid rocket motors, ignition systems, thrust vector control systems, and associated ordnance. The engineer will design, fabricate, and test prototype components, manage vendor partnerships, and execute ground static fire and environmental tests. Key responsibilities include performing CAD designs for motor cases and nozzles while utilizing internal ballistics codes and propellant burn-back models to predict performance. Required skills include expertise in solid rocket motors, manufacturing methods like machining and 3D printing, and proficiency in tools such as NX, Teamcenter, Python, and MATLAB. The role addresses the technical challenge of developing high-performance, resilient propulsion systems for complex, contested environments.

What you'll do

  • Architect and integrate solid rocket motors, ignition systems, and thrust vector control systems for missile platforms.
  • Design, fabricate, and test prototype components including structural interfaces and motor cases using CAD tools.
  • Plan and execute ground static fire, environmental, and integration tests for propulsion systems.
  • Manage development projects and establish strategic partnerships with solid rocket motor vendors.
  • Lead critical hardware demonstrations and technical presentations for customers.
  • Perform internal ballistics modeling to predict installed rocket motor performance.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies during propulsion testing and provide technical feedback during design reviews.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of propulsion engineering experience on tactical missiles, launch vehicles, or air vehicles.
  • Professional experience with Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs) for defense or aerospace applications.
  • Experience leading the integration of solid rocket propulsion systems into vehicles as a technical authority.
  • Experience utilizing and tailoring internal ballistics codes and propellant burn-back models for performance predictions.
  • Experience defining comprehensive propulsion test programs and designing mechanical parts using CAD.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods including machining, composites, high-temperature materials, and 3D printing.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance (Active Top Secret preferred).
