TL;DR · Principal Propulsion Engineer, Air Vehicles (Solid Rocket Motor Integration)

As a Principal Propulsion Engineer, Air Vehicles (Solid Rocket Motor Integration), you will join the Air Dominance & Strike Propulsion Integration team to design and integrate advanced hardware for Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms. You will serve as a lead contributor in selecting, architecting, and integrating solid rocket motors, ignition systems, thrust vector control systems, and associated ordnance. Your daily responsibilities include designing and testing prototype components, managing supplier relationships, and executing ground static fire and environmental tests. The role requires expertise in rocket internal ballistics, performance modeling, and grain design to influence manufacturer decisions. You will utilize CAD for structural integration of motor cases and nozzles while leveraging tools like NX, Teamcenter, Python, and MATLAB. This position addresses the technical challenge of developing high-performance, resilient propulsion systems for use in complex, contested environments.

What you'll do

  • Architect and integrate solid rocket motors, ignition systems, and thrust vector control systems for missile platforms.
  • Design, fabricate, and test prototype components including structural interfaces and motor cases.
  • Plan and execute ground static fire, environmental, and integration tests for propulsion systems.
  • Manage strategic partnerships and coordinate development projects with solid rocket motor vendors.
  • Perform CAD design for structural integration, nozzles, blast tubes, and aerodynamic interfaces.
  • Lead critical hardware demonstrations and technical presentations for customers and government agencies.
  • Advise executive leadership on technical risks and mentor mid-to-senior level engineers.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of propulsion engineering experience on tactical missiles, launch vehicles, or air vehicles.
  • Professional experience with Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs) for defense or aerospace applications.
  • Mastery of rocket internal ballistics, performance modeling, and grain design to influence OEM decisions.
  • Experience as the Chief Engineer or technical authority on a major solid rocket propulsion program.
  • Experience in SRM supplier selection, managing OEM relationships, and establishing qualified supply chains.
  • Experience defining propulsion test programs and troubleshooting system-level anomalies.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in NX/Teamcenter, Python, MATLAB (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with solid rocket motor testing, including static fire practices and data processing (preferred).
  • Previous work at a Solid Rocket Motor OEM or supplier (preferred).
  • Knowledge of TVC systems, ignition safety devices, ordnance, and telemetry (preferred).
  • Experience in procurement, machine shop operations, and shop safety protocols (preferred).
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance (preferred).
