Staff Industrial Engineer, Maritime Production System Design joins the Manufacturing Technology, Maritime Team to develop advanced AI-driven factories for large-scale autonomous maritime systems. This role focuses on the Production Controls team, where you will build and maintain discrete event simulation models and critical chain schedules to drive production planning. You will design plant layouts, material flow paths, and capacity plans while identifying bottlenecks through quantitative modeling. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing scripts for automated processes, performing trade studies for building configurations, and providing technical direction on production system designs for specific vehicle programs. The role requires expertise in operations research, simulation tools like FlexSim, Simio, AnyLogic, Plant Simulation, or Python, and familiarity with MES/ERP systems such as Forge, Odoo, SAP, Solumina, or Oracle to solve complex manufacturing challenges for defense hardware.
Develop and maintain discrete event simulation models to validate factory capacity before construction.
Create capacity plans and rate models to determine production volume under specific configurations.
Design plant layouts, material flow paths, and space allocations for a new maritime factory.
Sequence operations and workflows to define how builds are divided into stations and parallel tasks.
Write scripts and build automated processes to increase team throughput and decision speed.
Provide technical direction on production system designs across various vehicle build processes.
Conduct trade studies regarding building configurations, automation levels, and station counts for design reviews.
Manage requirements for architecture firms and external consultants while reviewing their deliverables.
What we're looking for
10+ years in production system design, factory design, or manufacturing engineering for large complex products.
Experience owning capacity or rate commitments for at least one program.
Demonstrated experience building and defending capacity or rate models.
Proficiency with simulation or quantitative modeling tools such as FlexSim, Simio, AnyLogic, Plant Simulation, or Python.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, operations research, manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).
Experience in shipyard or aerospace final assembly (preferred).
Experience with greenfield or major-expansion factory work (preferred).
Fluency in MES/ERP systems such as Forge, Odoo, SAP, Solumina, or Oracle (preferred).
