TL;DR · Senior Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical Metrology

Sr. Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical Metrology (Starlink) joins the Starlink User Terminal team to manage end-to-end supplier development for high-precision mechanical components and metrology processes. This role involves early engagement in supplier selection, equipment selection, and process engineering to ensure material and process corners are fully characterized for high-volume manufacturing. The engineer will design and qualify precision measurement fixtures, implement AI-powered metrology solutions like automated vision inspection, and provide technical guidance on GD&T, datum schemes, and PC-DMIS programming. Key responsibilities include leading PPAP and FAI activities, performing MSA and Gage R&R studies, and conducting root cause analysis for dimensional non-conformances. The role requires expertise in CMMs, optical measurement machines, surface profilometers, and laser trackers to ensure high-tolerance components meet rigorous standards while providing actionable engineering inferences from complex metrology data.

What you'll do

  • Manage end-to-end supplier development for high-precision mechanical components from selection through production ramp.
  • Provide technical guidance on GD&T, datum schemes, and measurement system analysis (MSA) to ensure manufacturing success.
  • Design and qualify precision measurement fixtures to ensure stability and accuracy in high-volume production.
  • Implement AI and machine learning solutions for automated vision inspection and predictive analytics on measurement trends.
  • Lead PPAP, FAI, and Gage R&R studies to enable full-rate manufacturing of tight-tolerance parts.
  • Develop robust qualification plans including dimensional validation, surface finish analysis, and CMM correlation.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements using Lean methodologies, process audits, and systematic problem-solving.
  • Perform reactive quality engineering by conducting root cause analysis and corrective actions for measurement escapes.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, metrology, industrial engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical metrology, precision manufacturing, or supplier development.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical metrology, precision manufacturing, or supplier development is preferred.
  • Strong technical background in GD&T, dimensional metrology, measurement system analysis, and high-volume production environments.
  • Proficiency in PC-DMIS programming for CMMs and familiarity with Hexagon CMM and Optical Measurement Machine hardware.
  • Experience implementing artificial intelligence and machine learning for metrology applications.
  • Knowledge of PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA, and Gage R&R for precision mechanical components.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
