TL;DR · Senior Principal Scientist, Senior Director, Laboratory Lead, Molecular Pathology

Sr. Principal Scientist (Senior Director), Laboratory Lead - Molecular Pathology serves as a senior scientific and people leader within the Translational Molecular Biomarkers team. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for the development, validation, and clinical deployment of tissue-based biomarker assays to inform target engagement, patient selection, and pharmacodynamic response. The successful candidate will manage laboratory operations, including resource planning, budget management, and compliance with GxP, CAP, and CLIA requirements while mentoring a high-performing team of scientists. Key technical competencies include expertise in histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, multiplex assays, and digital pathology, specifically involving image-analysis algorithms. The role addresses the critical need to translate biomarker strategies into fit-for-purpose clinical assays across various therapeutic areas and stages of development to provide decision-enabling data for clinical programs within a complex pharmaceutical pipeline.

What you'll do

  • Lead the strategic development, validation, and clinical deployment of tissue-based biomarker assays.
  • Establish fit-for-purpose assay strategies aligned with specific clinical programs and research questions.
  • Provide technical guidance on experiment design, tissue acquisition, and handling for early and late-stage programs.
  • Manage daily laboratory operations including capacity planning, budget management, and equipment lifecycle oversight.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with GxP, CAP, and CLIA regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee external tissue assay vendors through selection, qualification, and performance monitoring.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing team of scientists in an inclusive environment.
  • Communicate complex scientific data through study reports, publications, and conference presentations.

What we're looking for

  • Master’s degree, Ph.D., M.D., or international equivalent professional degree in a life sciences discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience with a Master’s degree or 10+ years with a Ph.D. or M.D.
  • At least three years of direct people management or laboratory leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to lead laboratory operations, manage resources and budgets, and deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Strong working knowledge of bioanalytical development and clinical laboratory quality systems, including GxP, CAP, and CLIA requirements.
  • Experience leading a histology, translational research, or clinical biomarker laboratory (preferred).
  • Histotechnology certification (HT or HTL), or equivalent formal histotechnology training (preferred).
  • Expertise in digital pathology, including the development of image-analysis algorithms or models (preferred).
