TL;DR · Senior Power Electronics Engineer, Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier

Sr. Power Electronics Engineer - Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier (Starlink) joins the traveling wave tube amplifier team to develop high-voltage power supplies for space communications. This role involves owning the full hardware lifecycle, from conceptual design and prototyping through testing, integration, and high-volume production. The engineer will design DC-DC power converters capable of supporting tens of kilovolts and hundreds of watts in harsh environments while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize performance and reliability. Key technical requirements include experience with magnetics, custom transformers, planar magnetics, and modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics. Candidates should possess skills in analog control, discrete logic design, voltage and current mode control, and DC-DC topologies. The role addresses the challenge of creating cost-effective, high-performance RF vacuum electronics for ground stations to deliver internet from the ground to satellites.

What you'll do

  • Own the full hardware lifecycle from conceptual design through high-volume production and ground station operation.
  • Design and analyze DC-DC power converters capable of operating in harsh environments.
  • Develop high-voltage power supplies supporting tens of kilovolts and hundreds of watts for TWTA systems.
  • Execute comprehensive verification testing and analysis for electrical power systems and sub-systems.
  • Perform design trades to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability of power electronics.
  • Rapidly iterate on designs and test results to inform high-level system trade-offs and product direction.
  • Integrate hardware with digital embedded devices, analog sensing, telemetry, and system controls.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in power converter development through work, projects, or research.
  • Experience with magnetics and the design of custom transformers, inductors, and planar magnetics.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics.
  • Proficiency in analog control, discrete logic design, and DC-DC topologies.
  • Knowledge of voltage and current mode control, compensation design, and fault tolerance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
