TL;DR · Power Electronics Engineer, Satellites

Power Electronics Engineer, Satellites (Starlink) joins the Power Electronics team to design and develop power conversion and control systems for Starlink satellites and ground systems. This role involves providing engineering expertise in the design, analysis, and testing of DC-DC power converters for harsh environments while performing system verification testing and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create new hardware. The work focuses on solving complex electrical challenges across a wide range of voltages and power levels, including solar/MPPT, battery systems, motors, and ion propulsion. Key technical requirements include proficiency in analog control, discrete logic design, and DC-DC topologies. Candidates should possess skills in modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics, as well as knowledge of radiation effects, lithium-ion battery handling, and failure mode effects and criticality analysis to ensure reliability in space applications.

What you'll do

  • Design, analyze, and test DC-DC power converters for harsh environments.
  • Perform electrical power system and sub-system level design trades.
  • Develop technical requirements for power systems and components.
  • Define and perform electrical power system verification testing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop new power electronics hardware.
  • Select optimal architectures and components for various DC-DC topologies.
  • Design for fault tolerance, reliability, and radiation effects in spacecraft environments.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in power converter development.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics.
  • Proficiency in analog control, discrete logic design, and DC-DC topologies.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft electrical systems, radiation effects, solar arrays, and lithium-ion battery handling.
  • Knowledge of AC-DC converters, power factor correction, and components for harsh environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
