Sr. Mechanical Building Engineer - Critical Environment
As a Sr. Mechanical Building Engineer - Critical Environment, you will serve as the technical cornerstone for advanced mechanical systems supporting critical data center and facility environments. You will lead the operation and maintenance of essential infrastructure, including HVAC systems, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers, and air handling systems. Your daily responsibilities involve performing root cause analysis on equipment failures, managing chilled water networks, and developing preventive maintenance schedules to ensure mission-critical uptime. You will also mentor junior staff and manage large-scale infrastructure projects. The role requires expertise in mechanical engineering principles, plumbing, and refrigeration, specifically within high-density server environments. Required skills include proficiency with Liebert systems, EPA 608 certification, and experience with building automation systems to optimize power usage effectiveness and enhance sustainability across complex cooling infrastructures.
Manage operations and maintenance for critical mechanical infrastructure including HVAC systems, chillers, and cooling towers.
Perform advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis on complex mechanical equipment failures to implement sustainable solutions.
Design and implement cooling solutions optimized for high-density server environments and evolving technology demands.
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues requiring advanced problem-solving expertise.
Develop and execute comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules to ensure 100% uptime of critical infrastructure.
Analyze performance data to implement optimization strategies that improve energy efficiency and sustainability.
Mentor and guide junior mechanical technicians and engineers to foster technical excellence and professional growth.
Coordinate large-scale projects including system upgrades, expansions, and the integration of new technologies.
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years of hands-on technical experience in critical facility mechanical engineering with expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and production equipment.
At least 3 years of specialized experience in data center or raised floor environments with complex cooling requirements.
Current Universal EPA 608 Certification is required.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience with ability to guide technical teams and drive operational excellence.
Physical capability to lift up to 80 pounds, work at heights up to 30 feet, and operate in extreme temperatures or confined spaces.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education (preferred).
Professional mechanical engineering license or industry-recognized advanced technical certifications (preferred).
