Senior Lead Software Engineer, Platform Engineering

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain a proprietary Java framework based on Spring Boot.
• Manage the framework's versioning, release strategy, and consumer migrations across multiple active versions.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive test automation strategy including unit, integration, and contract tests.
• Own the team's containerized delivery strategy and integration with managed container images.
• Contribute to shared platform services that wire applications into the runtime environment.
• Drive the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
• Diagnose and resolve complex, cross-cutting issues originating in the framework layer.
• Participate in global platform design discussions and make critical architectural decisions with long-lived consequences.

What we're looking for

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Significant Java engineering experience with depth in framework or platform library development.
• Strong understanding of Spring Boot internals, including auto-configuration, bean lifecycle, and application context.
• Experience building and maintaining test automation for library/framework code and integration test harnesses.
• Understanding of semantic versioning, backward compatibility contracts, and multi-version support strategies.
• Solid experience with containerized applications, container runtime systems, and managed container image strategies.
• Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and coaching engineers on responsible AI use.
• Hands-on experience with core cloud CI/CD tooling, including Terraform and Spinnaker.
• Strong system design skills with the ability to communicate architectural trade-offs for a large consumer base.
• Proven track record as a technical lead mentoring engineers and conducting substantive code reviews.
• Experience with Kafka, Cassandra, or OpenTelemetry instrumentation at the framework/starter level (preferred).
• Prior experience building or maintaining an internal Java framework built on Spring Boot in a large organization (preferred).
• Experience in a large-scale engineering organization or a financial services background (preferred).
• Experience working across geographically distributed teams in a senior or lead capacity (preferred).
