TL;DR · Senior Communication Sys Engineer, Modeling and Simulation

Sr. Communication Sys Engineer, Modeling and Simulation will join the team to support the mission of providing high-speed, low-latency, and secure satellite services for government customers. This role is responsible for assessing how satellite capabilities perform against specific government use cases by evaluating system performance regarding capacity, coverage, latency, and availability. The engineer will perform mission engineering to translate objectives into scenarios, model orbital mechanics including constellation geometry, and design resource scheduling for beam assignment under power and spectrum constraints. Key tasks include building RF and optical link budgets, modeling inter-satellite geometry, and extending simulation code using MATLAB, C++, or Python. The role addresses the technical challenge of delivering reliable communication in a dynamic network topology while managing interference from other space and terrestrial systems to ensure optimal performance for government contract work.

What you'll do

  • Own system-level modeling and analysis for government mission scenarios across coverage, capacity, latency, and availability.
  • Translate customer mission objectives into technical scenarios, measures of effectiveness, and design reference missions.
  • Apply orbital mechanics and constellation geometry to perform coverage, access, and contact analyses.
  • Design and evaluate resource scheduling and allocation methods for satellite beam assignment and prioritization.
  • Perform multi-disciplinary trade studies involving RF bandwidth, network resources, and link selection.
  • Build and utilize RF and optical link budgets to model time-varying system capacity and availability.
  • Develop and extend simulation code using MATLAB, C++, or Python to support dynamic network topologies.
  • Prepare and present technical analysis packages, visualizations, and briefing materials for government customers.

What we're looking for

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must possess a recent or active US Government TS/SCI security clearance (polygraph preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • 8+ years of experience in satellite or network system design, modeling, and analysis.
  • 8+ years of experience developing code in MATLAB, C, C++, or Python with industry-standard coding and regression practices.
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics and constellation geometry to simulate time-varying relative geometry of satellites and ground nodes.
  • Working knowledge of RF or optical link budgets and their impact on system capacity and availability.
  • Experience with resource scheduling, allocation, or optimization for communications or satellite systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing and presenting technical content to customers.
  • Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Experience with satellite constellation design, management trades, and optical inter-satellite links (preferred).
  • Background in RF/communications system design, communication theory, and network topology analysis (preferred).
  • Experience with mission engineering, CONOPS development, and supporting government or national security programs (preferred).
