The Sr. Advanced FPGA Firmware Developer joins the Torpedo Systems Group to develop, integrate, test, and support custom FPGA firmware for torpedo SONAR arrays and electronic assemblies. This role involves architecting and documenting firmware hierarchies, designing components with state machines and synchronous/asynchronous logic, and managing data flows. The developer will define timing, pinout, and placement constraints while performing synthesis and timing report analysis. Key technical requirements include proficiency in VHDL, experience with Xilinx (AMD) and Altera (Intel) compiler and debug tools, and the ability to interpret schematics and parts lists. The position focuses on solving complex integration issues and maintaining configuration management within a structured engineering environment. Architect, design, and document FPGA firmware hierarchies, components, interfaces, and data flows.
Develop, simulate, and test firmware components in preparation for hardware integration.
Define FPGA timing, pinout, and placement constraints while addressing synthesis and timing report issues.
Integrate and test firmware on target hardware using specialized FPGA tools and laboratory equipment.
Identify root causes of failures, implement fixes, and maintain configuration management documentation.
Interpret schematics and parts lists to guide hardware rework in support of firmware design.
Implement custom VHDL components including state machines, synchronous/asynchronous logic, and external interfaces.
What we're looking for
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree plus 6 years of experience.
Experience implementing FPGA firmware including custom VHDL components with state machines and various logic types.
Understanding of underlying FPGA fabric and experience working across cross-clock boundaries.
Familiarity with Xilinx (AMD) and/or Altera (Intel) compiler, programming, and debug tools.
Experience reviewing schematics, parts lists, and rework documentation.
Methodical, independent problem-solving and research skills.
