Software Developer

What you'll do

• Design, implement, and maintain core Qiskit SDK components and public APIs.
• Develop performance-critical code with a focus on usability, extensibility, and backward compatibility.
• Build and maintain compiler infrastructure including intermediate representations, optimization passes, and compilation pipelines.
• Review and mentor contributions from both internal engineers and external open-source contributors.
• Manage open-source workflows including design discussions, documentation, and release cycles.
• Debug and resolve complex technical issues across a large, evolving codebase.
• Develop Python extension modules and FFI-based integrations using Rust.

What we're looking for

• Master's Degree (preferred).
• Strong proficiency in Rust with experience writing production-quality, performance-aware code.
• Working knowledge of Python to support Python-facing APIs and mixed Rust/Python systems.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals including modular design, testing, CI/CD, and maintainability.
• Experience contributing to open-source projects, including code reviews and collaborative development.
• Familiarity with quantum computing and quantum SDKs (preferred).
• Exposure to compiler or transpiler concepts and experience developing Python extension modules or FFI-based integrations backed by Rust (preferred).
