TL;DR · Quantum System Performance Monitoring Intern

As a Quantum System Performance Monitoring Intern 2027, you will join a team of scientists dedicated to improving the performance, stability, and availability of quantum computing systems through automated monitoring and calibration. You will develop techniques to identify quantum processor performance drift and degradation while making automated decisions regarding recalibration and parameter optimization. Your daily work involves applying machine learning, AI, statistical analysis, and optimization methods to experimental or time-series data. The role requires undergraduate-level familiarity with quantum physics, quantum computing, Python programming, numerical analysis, and statistics. Preferred qualifications include experience with the Qiskit python package, quantum-device characterization, anomaly detection, and managing large experimental datasets. This position addresses the technical challenge of maintaining stable quantum hardware by creating data-driven systems to monitor and stabilize critical components within a quantum computing environment.

What you'll do

  • Improve the performance, stability, and availability of quantum computing systems.
  • Develop techniques to identify quantum processor performance drift and degradation.
  • Implement automated decision-making processes for system recalibration and actions.
  • Optimize system parameters using data-driven approaches.
  • Apply machine learning and AI techniques to monitor and calibrate quantum systems.
  • Perform statistical analysis and optimization methods on experimental time-series data.
  • Manage large experimental datasets and develop corresponding data-analysis pipelines.

What we're looking for

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
  • Undergraduate-level familiarity with quantum physics, quantum computing, Python programming, numerical analysis, and statistics.
  • Graduate-level familiarity and/or hands-on real-world experience with quantum physics, quantum computing, Python, numerical analysis, and statistics (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with experimental quantum systems, quantum-device characterization, or calibration (preferred).
  • Experience using the Qiskit python package (preferred).
  • Experience developing or applying machine-learning, statistical, or optimization methods to experimental or time-series data (preferred).
  • Familiarity with anomaly detection, statistical inference, automated control, or parameter optimization; and experience with large experimental datasets or data-analysis pipelines (preferred).
