The Sensing & Imaging FPGA Engineer joins the Imaging and Sensing Incubation team to develop hardware systems integrating cameras, microphones, and non-vision sensors like IMUs and accelerometers. This role involves developing FPGA-based platforms from architecture through hardware bring-up, building multi-sensor acquisition and processing systems for real-time image and DSP data paths. You will perform RTL coding, IP integration, synthesis, timing closure, and verification while using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to debug designs. Required skills include proficiency in Vivado and Lattice Radiant tools, System Verilog or Verilog, and experience with protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, and high-speed serial interfaces. The role focuses on the technical challenge of creating hardware systems that enable advanced features for products to sense and perceive the physical world around them.
Own the full FPGA lifecycle including RTL coding, IP integration, synthesis, and timing closure.
Develop FPGA-based processing for camera and multi-sensor data paths supporting real-time image and DSP.
Create and maintain test benches to verify HDL code for functional correctness and performance.
Execute plans to bring up, debug, and validate hardware designs using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Influence system architecture and micro-architecture decisions for sensor acquisition and processing systems.
Document FPGA architecture and communicate technical concepts to cross-functional partners and leadership.
Explore emerging sensor technologies to contribute to technology roadmaps for future products.
What we're looking for
Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Vivado and Lattice Radiant, including knowledge of AMD (Xilinx) and Lattice technologies.
Strong System Verilog or Verilog RTL design skills.
Experience with communication interfaces and protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, DP, and high-speed serial interfaces.
Troubleshooting and analytical skills using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, ChipScope, and Reveal.
BS degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
Experience with image/signal processing implementation in FPGA (ISP pipelines, filtering, frame buffering) (preferred).
Understanding of low-level software (C or C++), Python/Tcl for automation, and CI/CD methodologies (preferred).
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with experience delivering FPGAs from concept to implementation (preferred).
