The Sensing & Imaging FPGA Engineer joins the Imaging and Sensing Incubation team to develop hardware systems that enable advanced user experiences and Apple Intelligence features. You will build FPGA-based platforms from architecture through hardware bring-up, creating multi-sensor acquisition and processing systems for cameras and non-vision sensors like IMUs, microphones, and accelerometers. Your daily work involves RTL coding, IP integration, synthesis, timing closure, and lab-based debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. You will utilize System Verilog or Verilog, Vivado, Lattice Radiant, and various protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, and high-speed serial interfaces. The role focuses on the technical challenge of developing real-time image and DSP processing for complex data paths while exploring emerging sensor technologies to shape how future products sense and perceive the physical world around them.
Develop FPGA-based platforms from initial architecture through hardware bring-up and validation.
Own RTL coding, IP selection, integration, synthesis, and timing closure for multi-sensor systems.
Build and maintain test benches to verify HDL code for functional correctness and performance.
Create and execute plans to debug and validate designs using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Develop FPGA processing for camera and multi-sensor data paths supporting real-time image and DSP.
Document FPGA architecture and communicate technical concepts to cross-functional partners and leadership.
Explore emerging sensor technologies to contribute to technology roadmaps for future products.
What we're looking for
Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree.
Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Vivado and Lattice Radiant, including design constraints and familiarity with AMD (Xilinx) and Lattice technologies.
Strong System Verilog or Verilog RTL design skills.
Experience with communication interfaces and protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, DP, and high-speed serial interfaces.
Troubleshooting and analytical skills using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, ChipScope, and Reveal.
Experience with image/signal processing implementation in FPGA (ISP pipelines, filtering, frame buffering) (preferred).
Understanding of low-level software (firmware/drivers in C or C++) and Python/Tcl for automation and test (preferred).
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with experience delivering FPGAs from concept to implementation (preferred).
