The Sensing & Imaging FPGA Engineer joins the Imaging and Sensing Incubation team to develop hardware systems for future products and Apple Intelligence features. You will develop FPGA-based platforms from architecture through hardware bring-up, building multi-sensor acquisition and processing systems for cameras and non-vision sensors like IMUs and microphones. Key responsibilities include RTL coding, IP integration, FPGA synthesis, place and route, timing closure, and verification. You will use tools such as Vivado and Lattice Radiant while utilizing System Verilog or Verilog. Technical skills include experience with I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, and high-speed serial interfaces. You will also perform hardware bring-up and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and ChipScope to solve complex real-time image and DSP data path problems.

What you'll do

Own RTL coding, IP selection, synthesis, place and route, and timing closure for FPGA designs.
Develop FPGA-based processing for camera and multi-sensor data paths supporting real-time image and DSP.
Create and maintain test benches to verify HDL code for functional correctness and performance.
Execute plans to bring up, debug, and validate hardware designs using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Contribute to system and micro-architecture designs for multi-sensor acquisition and processing systems.
Document FPGA architecture and communicate technical concepts to cross-functional partners and leadership.
Explore emerging sensor technologies to contribute to technology roadmaps for future products.

What we're looking for

Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree.
Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Vivado and Lattice Radiant, including design constraints and AMD/Lattice technologies.
Strong System Verilog or Verilog RTL design skills.
Experience with communication interfaces and protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, MIPI, DP, and high-speed serial interfaces.
Troubleshooting and analytical skills using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, ChipScope, and Reveal.
Experience with image/signal processing implementation in FPGA (ISP pipelines, filtering, frame buffering) (preferred).
Understanding of low-level software (C or C++) and Python/Tcl for automation and test (preferred).
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with FPGA design experience (preferred).
