The Senior Specialist, Project Engineer leads the execution of complex military avionics non-recurring engineering development programs and manages their transition into production and sustainment. This role provides cross-functional technical leadership across the full product lifecycle, including requirements definition, architecture design, integration, verification, qualification, and manufacturing readiness. The engineer serves as a lead for multi-discipline efforts involving systems, electrical, mechanical, optical, software, FPGA, reliability, and test engineering. Key responsibilities include managing technical baselines, coordinating with program management on cost and schedule plans, and overseeing risk management. The role requires expertise in military avionics electronics or display systems within regulated defense environments. Candidates must navigate design-to-cost, manufacturing readiness, and configuration management while ensuring products meet stringent reliability and producibility standards for airborne electronics and mission systems during the transition from prototype to full-rate production.
Lead execution of military avionics non-recurring engineering programs from kickoff through qualification and production transition.
Serve as the lead engineer for multi-discipline efforts including systems, electrical, mechanical, software, and FPGA.
Develop and maintain integrated technical, cost, and schedule plans aligned with contractual commitments.
Drive project execution through all major program reviews and technical milestones.
Manage technical baselines and ensure designs meet cost, manufacturing, test, and reliability objectives.
Provide engineering support for proposal activities, including capture and basis-of-estimate for new developments.
Identify and resolve technical, cost, schedule, and producibility risks throughout the product lifecycle.
Mentor and provide technical leadership to less experienced engineers and project staff.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and minimum 6 years of relevant experience, a graduate degree and 4 years of experience, or no degree and 10 years of experience.
Ability to obtain Secret Security clearance.
Experience leading military avionics electronics, display, mission systems, or related hardware development programs (preferred).
Experience executing NRE development programs from requirements through integration, verification, qualification, and production transition (preferred).
Experience leading multi-discipline engineering teams across systems, electrical, mechanical, optical, software, FPGA, reliability, and test (preferred).
Experience managing projects or engineering scope associated with budgets of $10M+ (preferred).
Experience transitioning avionics products into production including prototype, qualification, low-rate initial production, and full-rate production support (preferred).
