As a Senior Software Platform Engineer, Apple Pay, you will join the team responsible for building and operating the internal developer platform used by the Wallet, Payments, and Commerce organization. What you'll do

Design and build Kubernetes-native services, controllers, and APIs using Go.
Convert complex infrastructure provisioning into simple declarative APIs for application teams.
Optimize system performance and resolve issues like memory growth or convergence failures across regions.
Maintain high engineering standards through rigorous testing, code reviews, and robust observability.
Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve incidents and implement permanent technical guardrails.
Integrate AI-forward tools and LLM-based agents into the standard development workflow.
Author design documents and incident write-ups for other engineers to act upon.

What we're looking for

6+ years of experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems.
Strong programming ability in Go with solid fundamentals in API design, concurrency, and error handling.
Experience with distributed systems including idempotency, eventual consistency, retries, and performance profiling.
Working knowledge of Kubernetes and extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and incident reports.
Experience writing Kubernetes controllers or operators in production (preferred).
Experience with declarative configuration systems like Pkl, CUE, Jsonnet, Kustomize, Helm, or Terraform (preferred).
Extended experience in areas such as GitOps, developer platforms, multi-region recovery, or regulated environments (preferred).
