As a Senior Robotics Research Engineer within the Robotics Research Lab, you will conduct original research to develop methods for intelligent robots to perceive, reason, plan, and act in complex real-world environments. You will build and evaluate research prototypes on physical platforms and in simulation while exploring how capabilities like robot learning, perception, and control can be integrated into coherent systems. This role involves investigating architectures that combine classical robotics with foundation models and agentic AI. You will utilize C++ and Python to solve open-ended problems across disciplinary boundaries including mechatronics, motion planning, and sensor fusion. The work focuses on the fundamental challenge of creating robots that act competently in reality by addressing technical hurdles in safety, autonomy, and hardware-software integration to shape future technologies for Physical AI.
Conduct original research in areas such as machine learning, perception, planning, control, and mechatronics.
Develop new methods for robots to perceive, reason, plan, learn, and act in complex real-world environments.
Integrate diverse robotic capabilities into coherent, hierarchical, and adaptive systems.
Investigate architectures that combine classical robotics, learning-based methods, foundation models, and agentic AI.
Build, integrate, and evaluate research prototypes on both physical robotic platforms and in simulation.
Identify system-level bottlenecks to translate research insights into requirements for future compute and software platforms.
Publish original research at leading robotics and AI venues to engage with the broader community.
Contribute to the technical roadmap and new research directions for Arm’s Robotics Research Lab.
What we're looking for
PhD or equivalent research experience in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Strong research expertise in at least one area relevant to intelligent robotic systems.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and solve open-ended research problems.
Experience implementing and evaluating algorithms on robotic systems, physical systems, or high-fidelity simulation.
Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
Publications in leading robotics, AI, controls, or systems venues, or equivalent evidence of research impact.
Ability to work across disciplinary boundaries and integrate research into larger robotic systems.
Experience in multiple areas such as robot learning, motion planning, control, perception, or mechatronics (preferred).
