TL;DR · Senior Robotics Research Engineer, Robotics and AI for Drug Discovery

As a Senior Robotics Research Engineer in the Seattle Robotics Lab, you will develop fundamental robotics technology and build real-world systems to bring automation and autonomy to molecular discovery, manufacturing, testing, and validation within wet labs. You will build digital twins of robots and laboratory environments using Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, and Matterix while simulating physics with NVIDIA Newton. Your daily work involves developing perception pipelines for object detection and pose estimation, translating experimental protocols into executable procedures via VLMs, and training robots for contact-rich manipulation through imitation learning and reinforcement learning. You will utilize Python, PyTorch, JAX, ROS2, and MuJoCo to solve complex problems in drug discovery. The role requires expertise in task and motion planning, high-performance control, and multisensory perception to integrate automated systems into biological experiment workflows.

What you'll do

  • Build digital twins of robots and laboratory environments using Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, and Matterix.
  • Simulate physics for complex objects like deformable bodies, granular media, and fluids using NVIDIA Newton.
  • Develop perception pipelines for object detection and pose estimation using multisensory inputs and foundation models.
  • Translate experimental protocols into executable physical procedures using VLMs and task/motion planning pipelines.
  • Train robots for contact-rich manipulation tasks using imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and high-performance control.
  • Build reliable real-world systems to automate discovery, manufacturing, testing, and validation in wet labs.
  • Integrate automated robotics systems into real-world biological experiment workflows.
  • Co-author scientific publications on technological achievements at high-impact journals and conferences.

What we're looking for

  • A PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3 years of research and engineering experience after completing the PhD are required, with 5+ years preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of robotics and AI theory and practice with strong expertise in real-world robotics applications is required.
  • Exceptional programming skills in Python are required, with familiarity in C++, CUDA, and Warp as a plus.
  • Fluency in PyTorch or JAX and experience training deep learning models on GPU clusters are required.
  • Significant experience with ROS2 and physics simulation frameworks like Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, or MuJoCo is required.
  • Experience in high-performance control, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and task and motion planning is preferred.
  • Direct experience in scientific and laboratory automation is a significant plus.
