As a Staff Robotics Research Engineer in the Robotics Research Lab, you will conduct original research to develop methods for intelligent robots to perceive, reason, plan, learn, and act within complex real-world environments. You will build and evaluate research prototypes on physical robotic platforms and in high-fidelity simulations while collaborating across disciplines like machine learning, perception, control, and mechatronics. The role involves investigating architectures that combine classical robotics with foundation models and agentic AI to solve the challenge of creating competent, autonomous systems. You will utilize C++ and Python to implement algorithms and identify system-level bottlenecks for future compute platforms. Your work focuses on the technical integration of robot learning, sensor fusion, motion planning, and safety-critical methods to advance Physical AI and define how robotic systems become reliable and controllable in real-world applications.
Conduct original research in areas such as machine learning, perception, planning, control, and mechatronics.
Develop new methods for robots to perceive, reason, plan, learn, and act in complex real-world environments.
Integrate diverse robotic capabilities into coherent, hierarchical, and adaptive systems.
Investigate architectures that combine classical robotics, learning-based methods, foundation models, and agentic AI.
Build, integrate, and evaluate research prototypes on both physical robotic platforms and in simulation.
Identify system-level bottlenecks to translate research insights into requirements for future compute and software platforms.
Publish original research at leading robotics and AI venues to engage with the broader community.
Define new research directions and contribute to the technical roadmap of the Robotics Research Lab.
What we're looking for
PhD or equivalent research experience in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Strong research expertise in at least one area relevant to intelligent robotic systems.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and solve open-ended research problems.
Experience implementing and evaluating algorithms on robotic systems, physical systems, or high-fidelity simulation.
Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
Strong publication record or equivalent evidence of research impact.
Ability to independently drive research projects and influence technical direction across a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in multiple areas such as robot learning, motion planning, control, perception, or mechatronics (preferred).
