TL;DR · Senior Metallurgical Engineer, Completions & Well Intervention

Senior Metallurgical Engineer for Completions & Well Intervention serves as the subject matter expert for metallic materials selection, corrosion evaluation, and metallurgical performance improvement across the completions and well intervention product portfolio. This role provides technical leadership for manufacturing, supply chain, and product development while mentoring junior engineers through a dotted-line structure. Responsibilities include conducting failure investigations using metallographic examination and fractography, developing material specifications, and overseeing root cause analyses for downhole equipment. The position requires expertise in carbon steels, low-alloy steels, stainless steels, and nickel-based alloys to address corrosion mitigation and manufacturing processes like heat treatment and welding. Candidates must navigate industry standards including API 5CT, API 6A, and NACE MR0175. This role solves critical metallurgical challenges for fishing tools and well intervention equipment by ensuring material integrity and reliability in demanding oilfield environments.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for metallurgy and corrosion engineering across all product lines.
  • Provide technical guidance on material selection, heat treatment, manufacturing processes, welding, and coatings for downhole applications.
  • Lead metallurgical evaluations of product performance, field failures, manufacturing issues, and supplier quality concerns.
  • Conduct or oversee failure investigations and root cause analyses using metallographic examination and fractography.
  • Develop and approve metallic material specifications and engineering standards to ensure compliance with industry requirements.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for metallurgy discussions with customers, suppliers, and third-party laboratories.
  • Partner with supply chain teams to evaluate material suppliers and develop qualification testing standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers through coaching, training, and reviewing technical work products.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science, corrosion, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in metallurgy, corrosion engineering, or materials engineering within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience supporting downhole completions, well intervention, production, fishing, drilling, or related oilfield equipment.
  • Knowledge of metallic materials for oilfield applications including carbon steels, low-alloy steels, stainless steels, and nickel-based alloys.
  • Experience performing metallurgical failure analysis and developing improvement guidance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical report-writing skills.
  • Advanced degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or Corrosion Engineering (preferred).
  • Work authorization in the country of employment.
