JOB TITLE: Senior High-Speed I/O Engineer
The Senior High-Speed I/O Engineer joins the Hardware Test Engineering group to own the design, development, and deployment of metrology and test instrumentation systems for advanced hardware. This role involves developing automated systems to validate the electrical function and performance of high-speed I/O technologies, including USBC, HDMI, Thunderbolt, and PCIe, across the entire product lifecycle from NPI through mass production. The engineer will partner with System EE, Signal Integrity, Firmware, and Software teams to define test strategies and analyze complex system behavior. Key requirements include proficiency in C, Objective-C, and Lua-based library development, alongside expertise in high-speed interconnects and signal integrity. The position focuses on solving complex engineering challenges through hardware bring-up, failure mode analysis, and AI-assisted analytics to ensure product quality and reliability.
Design, specify, and deploy automated instrument systems for high-speed I/O interfaces like USB-C and Thunderbolt.
Validate electrical function and performance of high-speed technologies across the entire product lifecycle.
Develop test station coverage and support hardware bring-up through deep technical dives into open issues.
Perform failure mode and root cause analysis by debugging from the system level down to the component level.
Apply data-driven and AI-assisted approaches to analyze large-scale instrument data and solve engineering challenges.
Author standard operating procedures, debug instructions, and technical documentation for contract manufacturers and vendors.
Manage technical escalations and communicate findings to engineering teams and executive stakeholders.
What we're looking for
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
7+ years of relevant professional experience.
Strong software development background in C, Objective-C, and/or Lua-based library, API, or framework development, application-specific firmware, and scripting.
Solid command of hardware fundamentals including architecture, block diagrams, schematics, and debug interfaces.
Experience with high-speed interconnects and signal integrity such as USB, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, HDMI, and PCIe.
Proven ability to design, bring up, debug, and automate electrical systems.
Familiarity with test methodology, statistical analysis, Gauge R&R, consumer electronics manufacturing, AI tooling, and cross-functional partnership management (preferred).
