TL;DR · Senior High-Speed I/O Engineer

As a Senior High-Speed I/O Engineer within the Hardware Test Engineering group, you will own the design, development, and deployment of metrology and test instrumentation systems for advanced hardware across the entire product portfolio. You will build automated instrumentation systems to validate the electrical function and performance of high-speed I/O technologies like USB, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, HDMI, and PCIe from initial milestones through mass production. Your daily work involves partnering with System EE, Signal Integrity, Firmware, and Software teams to define test strategies and analyze complex system behavior using data-driven and AI-assisted analytics. You will utilize skills in C, Objective-C, Lua, and scripting to automate systems while performing root cause analysis from the system level down to components. The role focuses on ensuring the quality and reliability of high-speed interconnects and signal integrity for consumer electronics.

What you'll do

  • Design and deploy automated instrumentation systems for high-speed I/O interfaces like USB-C, HDMI, and Thunderbolt.
  • Validate the electrical function and performance of hardware across the entire product lifecycle from NPI to mass production.
  • Develop test station coverage and perform deep technical dives to resolve complex hardware bring-up issues.
  • Perform failure mode and root cause analysis by debugging systems from the system level down to the component level.
  • Analyze large-scale instrument data using data-driven and AI-assisted methodologies to solve engineering challenges.
  • Author standard operating procedures (SOPs), debug instructions, and technical documentation for contract manufacturers and vendors.
  • Manage technical escalations and communicate findings to cross-functional engineering teams and executive stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong software development background including C, Objective-C, Lua, firmware, and scripting.
  • Solid command of hardware fundamentals such as architecture, block diagrams, schematics, and debug interfaces.
  • Experience with high-speed interconnects and signal integrity (USB, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIe).
  • Proven ability to design, bring up, debug, and automate electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with test methodology, statistical analysis, Gauge R&R, consumer electronics manufacturing, AI tooling, and cross-functional partnership management (preferred).
