TL;DR · Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Air Dominance and Strike

Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Air Dominance and Strike joins the Air Dominance and Strike Electrical Engineering Team to develop high-reliability avionics, embedded processing, and power systems for Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms. This role involves full-cycle PCB design, including requirement gathering, schematic design, component selection, and system integration. The engineer will perform power design, manage power management systems, and develop payloads involving sensors, networking, and power interfaces. Key responsibilities include creating system interconnect diagrams, defining wire harnesses, and troubleshooting issues across electrical and software boundaries using oscilloscopes, DMMs, and logic analyzers. Required skills include experience with microcontrollers, mixed-signal PCBs, and common bus interfaces like CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and RS485. The role addresses the technical challenge of creating flight-critical electronics and FPGA-based processing architectures for autonomous air platforms operating in complex, contested environments.

What you'll do

  • Execute full-cycle PCB design including requirements gathering, schematic design, component selection, layout, and system integration.
  • Perform power design and integrate power management systems for mission-critical electronics.
  • Conduct bring-up and design work on microcontrollers to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across electrical and software boundaries using lab equipment and debugging tools.
  • Develop payloads and subsystems including sensors, networking components, and power management interfaces.
  • Create system interconnect diagrams and define wire harnesses for electronic equipment within subsystems.
  • Conduct peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and reliability.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex system designs.
  • Ability to perform power system and electrical loading analysis, simulation, and testing.
  • High competence using lab test equipment and familiarity with thermal and EMI test chambers.
  • Experience designing multi-layer mixed-signal PCBs with proper grounding, protection, and filtering.
  • Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces such as CAN, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and USB.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, including bring-up and design work.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. security clearance.
  • Experience with power design and management systems.
  • Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics.
  • Understanding of low and high voltage power electronics for interconnect diagrams and cable harnessing.
  • Familiarity with high end consumer or military embedded systems design (preferred).
  • Experience with power systems including batteries and AC power (preferred).
  • Ability to develop low-level firmware for bring-up and test (preferred).
  • Background in defense and missile systems (preferred).
  • Comprehensive understanding of the effects of temperature and vibration on electrical designs (preferred).
