What you'll do

  • Design, simulate, and layout next-generation IBM Quantum processors to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Invent and model new processor technologies including novel gates, inter-chip entangling gates, and advanced readout schemes.
  • Develop and implement novel reset mechanisms for quantum hardware.
  • Simulate and lay out test devices to evaluate performance in collaboration with experimental teams.
  • Integrate successful innovations into the next generation of IBM Quantum processors.
  • Apply quantum computing theory and physics to develop new ideas for error correction and algorithms.
  • Engineer advanced quantum hardware designs using optimal control theory and experimental physics principles.
  • Optimize multi-qubit gates and address decoherence mechanisms to advance quantum operations.

What we're looking for

  • Master's degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Doctorate degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Deep understanding of quantum computing theory, including error correction, algorithms, and device physics.
  • Expertise in quantum hardware design, optimal control theory, and experimental physics.
  • Proficiency in simulating quantum systems and physical systems using microwave simulation software.
  • Experience in the design and simulation of superconducting quantum processors.
  • Knowledge of advanced quantum operations, such as multi-qubit gates optimization and decoherence mechanisms.
  • Experience measuring superconducting qubits (preferred).
