What you'll do

  • Own deterministic polishing lap figure control including CP, PP, and spindle lap flatness performance.
  • Define lap flatness specifications, control limits, measurement methods, and acceptance criteria for manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain standard lap conditioning methods, including conditioner selection and operating settings.
  • Create universal standards for lap preparation, monitoring, and release across multiple platforms.
  • Reduce cross-platform variation by benchmarking performance and establishing common process requirements.
  • Lead the qualification of new conditioning methods, materials, and measurement techniques.
  • Perform structured root cause analysis to address defects, yield loss, and figure instability.
  • Manage process readiness milestones and ensure all corrective actions are documented and sustained.

What we're looking for

  • Must have a BS or MS in Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in optical fabrication, precision machining, grinding, polishing, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with polishing mechanics, lap conditioning, figure control, metrology interpretation, and process development.
  • Proficiency in using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical analysis software.
  • Ability to interpret interferometry, profilometry, and surface inspection data.
  • Demonstrated ability in structured problem solving, root cause analysis, and process improvement.
  • Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology as defined in Export Administration Regulations.
  • Work authorized.
