The Principal System Integration and Test Engineer joins the Irvine Engineering team to drive product development for advanced MANET and MIMO communications systems. This role involves designing and testing complete solutions using hardware and software products to solve complex technical problems in mission-critical environments. Daily responsibilities include creating integration test plans, performing firmware and hardware testing, conducting field trials, and providing technical support to internal teams and customers. The candidate will troubleshoot issues, provide engineering analysis, and assist the sales team with demonstrations and documentation. Required skills include experience with embedded firmware development, scripting, embedded Linux, C/C++, and Python. Proficiency with lab instruments like signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers is essential. The role addresses technical challenges in wireless radio communication systems, RF signal propagation, and digital communication technologies to ensure reliable connectivity for defense and public safety.
Design and test complete solutions using hardware and software products to solve complex technical problems.
Prepare and execute integration test plans for embedded firmware, hardware, and product-level functions.
Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform field tests for new capabilities.
Provide debugging, troubleshooting support, and engineering analysis for internal teams and customers.
Test and harden existing features through specific firmware and hardware modifications in realistic applications.
Support the Sales Engineering team by preparing demonstrations and recreating bugs found in the field.
Create and maintain customer-facing documentation including manuals, user guides, and application notes.
Provide in-person technical support, training, and system integration at customer sites during domestic and international travel.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. Citizen due to government contract requirements.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with at least 10 years of experience in embedded firmware development and testing.
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with at least 8 years of relevant industry experience.
Proficiency in scripting, embedded Linux, C/C++, and Python.
Proficiency with lab instruments including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.
Willingness to travel up to 25% for domestic and international customer support and demonstrations.
Experience with wireless/radio communication systems, RF propagation, and TCP/IP networking is preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and customers.
