As a Principal Platform Software Engineer, you will join the OCI team to define and drive the technical direction for reliable, secure, and delightful deployment capabilities across the Developer Platform. You will be responsible for building an all-new application deployment system that serves as a critical foundation for how developers build, validate, release, operate, and evolve services. Your daily work involves designing architecture for core services and APIs, establishing durable platform primitives, and creating technical foundations for agentic engineering workflows while ensuring safety and governance. You will utilize skills in Java, Go, C++, C#, or Python to develop distributed systems, container-based architectures, and workflow development. This role addresses the complex problem of improving developer velocity and reliability within a cloud-native environment by removing systemic barriers through robust infrastructure automation and scalable service designs.
Define the architecture and technical strategy for core services and APIs powering the OCI deployment platform.
Lead the delivery of resilient, scalable deployment workflows and platform primitives for diverse environments.
Translate ambiguous multi-organization needs into clear technical strategies, design principles, and execution plans.
Establish safety and reliability as platform defaults through policy enforcement, observability, and robust failure handling.
Build technical foundations for AI-assisted engineering workflows including governance and security controls.
Identify high-leverage investments to improve developer experience, performance, and deployment success rates based on operational data.
Raise the engineering bar through architecture reviews, technical mentorship, and establishing design standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of professional software development experience including leading the design and delivery of production-quality distributed systems, platform services, or developer tools.
Strong programming skills in one or more modern languages such as Java, Go, C++, C#, Python, or similar.
Deep experience designing APIs, data models, and service architectures with focus on scalability, availability, security, operability, and long-term evolution.
Solid understanding of cloud-native systems including containers, orchestration, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, or release engineering concepts.
Demonstrated technical leadership to define strategy, align stakeholders, and drive execution across teams while remaining accountable for outcomes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence technical decisions and build alignment across organizational boundaries.
Experience in deployment platforms, distributed systems, SRE, security engineering, or AI-assisted developer tools (preferred).
